Mamad LabRCSI & FutureNeuro

We’re hiring: two Research Assistants to join the lab!

Lab news

We’re recruiting two Research Assistants to support our in vivo place-cell recordings in preclinical models of epilepsy, rare diseases and brain injury. Applications close on 15 October 2026.

The Mamad Lab in the Department of Physiology & Medical Physics at RCSI is looking for two Research Assistants to join our team. We study mechanisms and cognitive biomarkers for epilepsy, rare diseases and brain injury, and the new team members will play a central role in our in vivo place-cell recording work in preclinical mouse models.

The roles are hands-on and varied. Day to day, you’ll help manage our wildtype and genetically-altered mouse colonies, carry out genotyping, drug treatments and behavioural assays, and contribute to histological and molecular studies. You’ll also help with data analysis, dataset maintenance and reporting, and work closely with colleagues across the MRTF, BRF and the Physiology Department.

The positions are funded through the Research Ireland FutureNeuro Phase 2 award and based in the FutureNeuro Research Centre, giving you access to world-class facilities and a multidisciplinary, inter-institutional research community. They are full-time Specified Purpose Contracts for up to 12 months, with the potential to extend.

We’re looking for self-motivated, creative and collaborative people with a recent BSc or MSc in neuroscience or a related discipline. Completed LAST Ireland training is essential, along with general lab experience and familiarity with the regulatory side of animal research. Experience in molecular biology or neuroscience is a bonus.

If you’re not sure you tick every box, we’d still encourage you to apply. Imposter syndrome stops too many great candidates from putting themselves forward.

Applications must be made through the RCSI careers portal with a CV and cover letter by 15 October 2026. We can’t accept CVs sent directly to the lab. For informal enquiries, please contact Clarissa Disconzi in RCSI Human Resources.
