Sleep-CDD, a four-year programme running to 2030, will investigate why sleep is disrupted in CDD and whether restoring it can improve seizures and development.
Sleep problems are among the most exhausting aspects of CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder for children and their families, yet almost nothing is known about the underlying biology. The Sleep-CDD project, supported by Research Ireland and RCSI, will characterise sleep architecture and circadian rhythms in Cdkl5 knockout mice, identify the molecular and neuronal changes that drive disruption, and assess candidate therapeutics.
The award builds on pilot work funded by CDKL5 Ireland in 2024 and expands the lab's programme from molecular mechanisms into a second major clinical feature of the disorder.
